Dumbrell quickest, Jones crashes in Practice 3

Paul Dumbrell attacks the beachside chicane

Paul Dumbrell continued the #1 Red Bull Holden’s unbeatable form at Surfers Paradise by topping the second co-driver session of the day.

Dumbrell traded the top spot with Ford Performance Racing’s Steve Owen across the final 10 minutes, putting himself ahead for good with just two of the 40 minutes remaining.

Owen’s final effort had to be aborted after a wild moment through the beachside chicane.

Greg Ritter, Steve Johnson, Taz Douglas, Karl Reindler, Luke Youlden, Steven Richards, Marc Lieb and Craig Baird completed the top 10.

The session was halted for more than 15 minutes in the early going following a crash from Andrew Jones.

The Team BOC Holden slammed into the tyre barrier on the inside of Turn 3 after being knocked off course by the Turn 2 kerbing.

Jones walked away unscathed, with the team left to assess significant damage.

Red Bull’s Warren Luff later had his own glance of the Turn 3 wall, sending the #888 Holden to the garage.

Luff returned to the track after a minimal loss of time with the car sporting race tape to its left-front corner.

A final 40 minute practice session for all drivers will complete the Friday running.
