Kiwi-born Gold Coast driver Jaxon Evans will step into reigning champion Matt Campbell's machine in the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship.
After experiencing two seasons in feeder Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia class, Evans will join the powerful McElrea Racing operation.
“To be running out of the McElrea Racing camp, and in the 2016 championship winning car, will give me the best chance to adapt and to learn as quickly as possible,” said Evans.
“Although I'll be facing new challenges like street circuits and some very experienced competitors, I'm really looking forward to mixing it up near the front of the field and developing and learning both on and off the track.”
Team boss Andy McElrea is excited to have another fast youngster in his stable.
“Jaxon will surprise quite a few people this year. He's very quick and shows great racing intelligence and was stiff not to claim last year's GT3 Cup Challenge win,” said McElrea.
“He's already well ensconced in the team and a really likeable young man, who
I feel sure can follow in the footsteps of Matt Campbell, which is really exciting for our whole operation.”
The opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship is scheduled for the Clipsal 500 from March 2-5.
