V8 Supercars has officially launched its two Car of the Future prototypes at Sydney Olympic Park ahead of this weekend’s Sydney Telstra 500.
Hosted by V8 Supercars commentators Neil Crompton and Mark Skaife, the launch marks the first time the two cars have been officially shown to the public ahead of their race debut in 2013.
Shane van Gisbergen and Steven Johnson were given the honour of revealing the Ford Falcon FG, while Garth Tander and Rick Kelly did likewise for the Holden Commodore VE.
The new cars represent an evolution of the regulations first introduced into the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1993, and see the cars move to an independent rear suspension, transaxle gearbox, mid-mounted fuel tank and control rollcage, in addition to a new 18-inch wheel and tyre package.
Mark Skaife will lap the Sydney circuit in the Holden with a hotlap winner alongside later today, while Neil Crompton will drive the Ford.
