2003 World Rally Champion Petter Solberg is considering a switch to the World Touring Car Championship in 2011.
Apart from a confirmed Peugeot entry at the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) Rally Monte Carlo later this month, Solberg has not confirmed any WRC plans for 2011.
The Norwegian has an offer from Citroën for a rally program, but he is struggling to find the finance.
Solberg has revealed that WTCC is his main target now.
“I know what I can do on the track, and that’s why I’m looking at the WTCC,” Solberg told AUTOSPORT.com.
“I am very interested in testing some cars to see what they’re like. I have tested Formula 1 and Le Mans cars and they went well. At the moment it’s tough in the WRC, so I am exploring other possibilities and the biggest of those is the WTCC.”
Solberg has not had a full factory drive in the WRC since Subaru withdrew from the championship at the end of 2008.
Solberg’s switch is in contrast to 2007 Formula One World Champion Kimi Raikkonen who will enter his second full season in the WRC aboard a Red Bull-backed Citroën.
