Scott Pye sustained a fractured rib in his late-race crash at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, the driver has discovered.

Pye was taken to Orange Base Hospital following the race, discharged later that night having been cleared of serious injury.

The 25-year-old was subsequently notified by V8 Supercars medical delegate Dr Carl Le yesterday afternoon that a report from the hospital confirms a fracture to the ninth rib on his right-side.

“I’m ok, I have got one broken rib which I’ve only just found out, but I’m on the mend at the moment,” Pye said in a DJRTP video.

Regardless, Pye is confident that he’ll be fit to race at the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in less than two weeks time.

“I was meant to be out in the go-kart this weekend but I won’t be doing that I will be focussing on being ready for the Gold Coast 600 next weekend,” he said.

“I have seen the car (at the workshop) and after the size of the hit it is a testament to the chassis of the cars now and how safe they are these days.

“I’m fortunate I was not seriously injured. I feel fine but a little bit tender. I have got some painkillers to help me sleep but I will bounce back.”

Pye’s pain has been tempered this week by the surprise news that he will be retained by DJR Team Penske in an expanded two-car program next season.
