Speedcafe.com can reveal images of the Car of the Future chassis that Brad Jones Racing has dubbed its first ‘in-house’ V8 Supercar creation.

To be codenamed BJR 001, the car is currently in the midst of its build phase in the team’s Albury workshop.

Having previously used chassis from Peter Beehag’s On Track Engineering (2000-2007) and Walkinshaw Racing (2008-2012), BJR has constructed its first COTF from a basic front firewall to rear-roll-hoop frame supplied by Pace Innovations.

It is expected that BJR will join fellow Victorian based Holden squad Garry Rogers Motorsport in building its subsequent COTF vehicles using kits from Kelly Racing.

BJR team principal Kim Jones told Speedcafe.com that he’s pleased with the progress made on the first car to date.

“This is the first chassis that BJR has completely constructed in-house, so it’s exciting to see it taking shape,” said Jones.

“In terms of progress, it’s coming along as well as it can be expected given the issues that are in play (a lack of final technical regulations from V8 Supercars).

“One thing that we have decided to do is do it once and do it right, so unless something is confirmed and in concrete we put our focus elsewhere.”

The team has so far focussed on fitting the majority of the underskin tin-work, in addition to the rear suspension points.

The front chassis rails will be added once the team has completed the design of its front crossmember and other related front-end componentry.

While the completion date of the first car will depend on receiving final technical regulations from V8 Supercars, the total number of cars that BJR will build is yet to be locked down.

The team has run three cars for the last two seasons, utilising the Racing Entitlements Contract co-owned by Jason Bright and Brad Jones alongside its own two licenses, but has yet to confirm the structure will remain in place for 2013.

“Deals are in the process of being done, and at this point in time the intention is to run three cars, but who knows what’s around the corner,” said Jones of the situation.

“The plan is for status quo, but whether that plays to be come January 1st 2013, we’ll have to wait and see.”

The 2012 V8 Supercars Championship continues with the Sucrogen Townsville 400 in less than two weeks time.
