
Ginetta will build up to 10 chassis for customers competing in the 2018 World Endurance Championship.
The British constructor has brought in legendary designer Adrian Reynard to lead the aero development.
Paolo Catone, who previously designed the Le Mans winning Peugeot 908 driven by David Brabham, Marc Gene and Alex Wurz, is also heavily involved in Ginetta LMP1 design.
The relationship with the ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest) has grown since Ginetta began building LMP3 machines in 2015.
The Ginetta LMP1 design has started from scratch, allowing the manufacturer to partner with world-class designers and supply partners to create what is expected to be an extremely competitive car.
“This certainly appeals to my competitive nature,” Reynard said.
“Aerodynamics, driveability and fuel efficiency dominate race car performance in this category.
“With the highly talented team of experienced engineers that Ginetta has available, this LMP1 contender will be designed and developed to challenge at the highest level.”
The project will see Ginetta team up with Mecachrome to supply the engines along with Xtrac for the drivetrain.
Ginetta has stressed that it will not be running a factory team but intends to build 10 chassis to support three, two-car customer teams.
Significant interest has already been expressed from both new and existing customers, including G57 customers, PRT Racing and ARC Bratislava for their 2018 WEC campaigns.
Initial testing of the Ginetta LMP1 is expected to begin after the 2017 Le Mans 24 Hour.
Ginetta last competed in LMP1 and LMP2 at Le Mans in 2010 with Zytek.
