Goddard quickest in Super2 Practice 2 in Ipswich

Zane Goddard

Zane Goddard set the pace in Practice 2 for Round 4 of the Dunlop Super2 Series at Queensland Raceway but Kurt Kostecki remained quickest on combined times.

Goddard set a 1:10.3560s during his late-session qualifying simulation in the #28 MW Motorsport Altima which bumped Kurt Kostecki off the top for the session but not the day as a whole.

Kurt Kostecki put in a 1:10.3845s with green tyres on the #55 Triple Eight VF Commodore having set a 1:10.3399s on Practice 1 tyres in the cooler morning hit-out, while series leader Bryce Fullwood was another tenth of a second slower in the #16 MW Motorsport Altima.

It was again Kurt Kostecki setting the early pace in Practice 2, although this time Ash Walsh (#35 Matt Stone Racing VF Commodore) managed to usurp him by the end of the first runs.

They swapped the lead back and forth before the early qualifying simulations shook up the order with Jack Perkins (#54 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore), Brenton Grove (#10 Triple Eight VF Commodore), and then Thomas Randle (#5 Tickford Racing FGX Falcon) going fastest.

Kurt Kostecki reclaimed the ascendancy as the 40-minute session moved into its final five minutes with a 1:10.4297s on green tyres before Goddard put in his fastest lap.

Unlike most around him, Goddard could not find more time on his second green tyre flyer but Kurt Kostecki did not improve by enough to dislodge the man who sits second in the series from the top of the timing screen.

Behind Fullwood was Dylan O’Keeffe (#44 Garry Rogers Motorsport VF Commodore) at 0.1614s off the pace, from Jack Smith (#21 Brad Jones Racing VF Commodore), Randle, Grove, Tyler Everingham (#27 MW Motorsport Altima), Jordan Boys (#49 Image Racing VF Commodore), and Perkins.

Walsh ended up 11th with the 1:10.8193s he set before the qualifying simulations, and Will Brown brought up the foot of the 17-car field in the #38 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore at a full second off the pace.

There were a number of offs during the older tyre runs, although proceedings settled once drivers took on new rubber.

Armor All Qualifying for the first race of the weekend starts tomorrow at 1255 local time/AEST.
