James Golding has copped a five-place grid penalty following an incident with Craig Lowndes in qualifying for Race 4 at the Coates Hire Melbourne 400.
Stewards concluded that the Garry Rogers Motorsport driver impeded Triple Eight’s Craig Lowndes at Turn 9 during the session.
The incidents ruined Lowndes’ final lap which left him last on the grid.
Golding had qualified in 19th position but will now start 24th spot for Race 4.
“Following a DRD investigation and an admission by Car #34, James Golding, of a breach of Schedule B2, Article 2.1.1 (Careless Driving – impeding of Car #888, Craig Lowndes, at Turn 9 during the session), the Stewards imposed the penalty of the Loss of 5 Grid Spots in Race 4 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship on Car #34, James Golding,” read the stewards report.
Stewards have also issued $5,000 fines ($2,500 suspended until December 31) to Preston Hire Racing’s Lee Holdsworth and Tickford Racing’s Richie Stanaway for two seperate incidents in Thursday’s ride session.
Holdsworth was adjudged to have breached Rule E.6.3.2 – the Driver must maintain control of the Car and must use the Race Track at all times during a Ride.
Stanaway was penalised for performing a practice start during the ride session.
