Dunlop Series regular Todd Hazelwood will return to his racing roots this weekend when he lines up for the fourth round of the Australian Kart Championship at Ipswich.

The Gold Coast-based South Australian will join the Harrington Doyle Racing Arrow Karts team as they celebrate 10 years in the sport.

Hazelwood enjoyed a successful period in karting winning titles in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland as he progressed up the single-seater ranks and into touring cars.

The 20-year-old is lying fifth in the Dunlop Series standings ahead of the fourth round of the series at the Castrol Edge Townsville 400 next weekend.

Hazelwood says he is looking forward to a competitive karting return, which he feels can assist preparations for racing in the Dunlop Series.

The Supercars hopeful finished second when he raced for the Harrington Doyle Racing Arrow Karts team at last season’s finale.

“Racing karts is where we all started our careers and I’m sure that I speak on behalf of everyone in the Supercar paddock when I say that we all love getting back out on track in a kart,” said Hazelwood.

“It’s not just a lot of fun but also very physical which keeps you in shape for when we climb back into our Supercar.

“Along with being fun and physical, it’s also very competitive. There’s always very little time between everyone in qualifying and the racing is intense.”

More than 220 drivers will line up at the event across nine classes this weekend with practice due to begin on Friday.
