New Walkinshaw Racing signing Russell Ingall says that he wants to keep racing beyond 2012.
After four years with Paul Morris Motorsport, Ingall will switch to the factory Holden team next year.
While some pundits have predicted next year to be Ingall’s final season as a full-time driver, the 2005 V8 champion is adamant that he wants to race on beyond the conclusion of his one-year deal.
“2012 will be the decider – my decision (on whether to continue) will be totally dependant on results,” Ingall told Speedcafe.com.
“If I have a good year, I want to press on, absolutely, but I’m not going to do it if I’m just making up the field. That’s not what I’m in it for. There’s other things I could be doing and would probably enjoy more.
“If we’re up the pointy end, consistently in the top 10, where I have been most of my career, then we’ll see what happens at the end of 2012.”
Ingall, currently 19th in the V8 Supercars Championship, says that the deal with Walkinshaw Racing is the perfect fit for himself and sponsor Supercheap Auto, which has signed a three-year agreement with the team.
“I’m extremely happy with my decision. It was an important decision, not only for myself, but for my sponsor Supercheap Auto,” said Ingall.
“Supercheap is going to be in the game for a lot of years – well beyond when I decide that I’m going to hang up my helmet. They’ll be here for the next five to 10 years.
“There was a lot of background work that went into the decision for what’s going to be best for the future. It was a massive call, more so for next year, as that will dictate if I will stay in the game or not.”
V8 Supercars qualifying will be held at 11.15 local time, before Race 25 of the V8 Championship at 1615.
