Russell Ingall has posted the fastest time in the opening practice session for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
Reserved for non-Platinum and Gold rated drivers, the 30-minute session saw Ingall record a 2:06.43s in the BMW Team SRM M6 GT3.
Ingall set the time with just under four minutes remaining in the #7 machine he is sharing with Mark Skaife, Tony Longhurst and Timo Glock.
“We had the luxury of testing here which was a bit of a advantage,” Ingall, a double Bathurst 1000 winner, said.
“We are all newbies really. I have been out of the saddle for a while so maybe I am an amateur.”
“The track is not bad and at least we have got some running today. We have done our homework as we have done 3,000km of testing. We are having a swing at it.”
In overcast conditions after a light sprinkling of rain earlier in the morning, Ingall shaded the 2:07.20s set by George Miedecke in the Aston Martin Vantage.
Dean Canto was third best in the Trofeo Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan.
