Kristian Lindbom will make his international race car debut this week, driving in the official GP3 winter test at Jerez.
Lindbom, a former Australian karting champion, will drive in the final two days of the test with Tech 1 at the Spanish circuit this Thursday and Friday.
The New South Welshman will head over to the former Grand Prix circuit tonight.
He hopes to impress the GP3 teams, and potential backers, to secure a ride in the leading European development class next year.
“It’s a massive opportunity,” Lindbom told Speedcafe.com.
“I’m putting it all on the line for this. It’s not just a chance to drive the car. Everyone will be looking at it. Hopefully what I can do is get some recognition and get a sponsor because I can’t do it myself. I’m doing everything I can to race over there next year, and this is basically my only chance.”
Lindbom has had limited racing miles of late. After competing in the 2006 and 2007 Formula Ford Championship, he has spent the past few seasons on the sidelines, working with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport. He made a return to the driver’s seat at Hidden Valley’s Formula 3 round, winning a race.
He has also tested two V8 Supercars this year.
Lindbom is throwing everything he has at this test, saying that he has “maxed out” his credit card to secure the two day program.
“My credit card is maxed out, my savings are gone. The test is a very expensive exercise,” he said.
“It has always been my goal to go to Europe, but the opportunity has never come up. Now it has, so I’ve got to make the most of it.”
Lindbom is holding a fundraiser to pay back his test debt, plus raise funds for a possible campaign next year.
