Scott McLaughlin has taken out the 2012 Dunlop Series title in the final race of the season at Sydney Olympic Park.
Starting from pole following his Race 1 win yesterday, McLaughlin led the opening corners of the race before letting first Scott Pye and then Chaz Mostert through.
Pye went on to win the race, securing second in the series by withstanding heavy race-long pressure from the Ford Performance Racing Falcon.
Just 0.5s separated the two leaders at race end, while McLaughlin cruised to the line a full 12s further adrift.
Dale Wood took fourth ahead of a charging Nick Percat, with the Coates Hire Commodore having started from the rear of the field after crashing out of Saturday’s encounter.
Luke Youlden ran fifth for much of the race but eventually drifted back to eighth after heavy contact with the Turn 5 exit wall.
Andrew Jones and Ash Walsh filled sixth and seventh respectively having slipped by Youlden, while Geoff Emery and Rodney Jane rounded out the top 10.
Jane’s Sonic Motor Racing Services team-mate George Miedecke failed to finish after contact with the Turn 1 barrier while running inside the top 10 in the early laps.
