Since opening its first retail outlet in 1972, Supercheap Auto has grown to have over 300 stores around Australia and New Zealand with over 3,800 team members. Having started life as a mail order business, two years later its first store opened in Brisbane and its focus on team members and a product range that has grown to over 10,000 individual items has driven the growth.
The Super Retail Group was publicly listed in 2004 and now includes sports retailer, rebel; boating, camping and fishing chain, BCF; and outdoor retailer, Macpac. Supercheap Auto is perhaps best known for its major sponsorship of the Bathurst 1000 that lasted for 15 years – including its megastore each year at the Bathurst event.
