Citroen factory driver Mads Ostberg will continue his preparation for Coates Hire Rally Australia today after escaping an incident with a truck on Tuesday’s recce.
The Norwegian driver and co-driver Jonas Andersson were completing a reconnaissance run on the last stage of the day when they were involved in a accident.
The pair’s Mitsubishi recce car suffered heavy front end damage while Ostberg and Andersson escaped without serious injury.
Ostberg revealed via his Facebook page that he has suffered bruised ribs but has been cleared to compete in Rally Australia.
“We had an accident on the recce. We met a big truck on the last stage,” wrote Ostberg.
“The road was too narrow and there was no way to avoid a crash.
“We have been taken care of by medical staff at the local hospital. We are ok, no serious injuries.
“It took some time getting out of bed today. We had quite the impact yesterday, but we were lucky.
“It could have been much worse when you look at our recce car.
“We’ve been cleared to continue by the medics. Luckily there were no fractures, only two bruised ribs causing me a bit of discomfort.
“So we’re going to recce again today, and we’ll see how it goes. We hope for the best. Thank you for all your support.”
Reece continues today ahead of the Rally Australia start on Friday morning.
