Fabio Quartararo set the pace while both Marquez brothers crashed on Day 1 of MotoGP post-season testing at Valencia.
Quartararo amassed the greatest number of laps, with the Frenchman’s fastest a 1:30.163s on his 73rd time around the Circuit Ricardo Tormo out of a total of 82.
He subsequently crashed his Petronas SRT Yamaha entry at Turn 10 but remained on top as factory counterpart Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha) closed to 0.164s behind.
Quartararo’s team-mate Franco Morbidelli made it three Yamahas in the top three with a fastest lap of 1:30.650s, just ahead of Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso, who was testing a new chassis.
Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez ended up fifth but had to finish the day on a 2019-spec RC213V after crashing his only 2020 version at Turn 13.
His new team-mate, Alex Marquez, was entered with LCR Honda and crashed on his first run at Turn 10.
He ultimately logged 53 laps for the day which had him classified at the foot of the timesheet in 23rd.
Stefan Bradl emulated both of the Marquez brothers by also going down at Turn 10, which resulted in damage to that 2020 prototype, and he finished up one position ahead of Alex.
Suzuki Ecstar team-mates Joan Mir and Alex Rins were sixth and seventh respectively, ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory’s Pol Espargaro.
Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha), who was working with his new crew chief in David Muñoz, took ninth, with Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller rounding out the top 10.
Factory Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci completed only 10 laps due to pain from his crash in the weekend’s race, which left him 12th.
Andrea Iannone was the top Aprilia rider in 14th, 1.511s off the pace.
The test concludes with Day 2 from tonight (AEDT).
