David Reynolds recorded pole for Race 31

David Reynolds scored pole position for Race 31 at Surfers Paradise in a qualifying session that saw all four marques finish in the top six.

The Bottle-O Ford driver spent the dying seconds of the 30 minute hit-out in pitlane having recorded the fastest time of the weekend to date, a 1:10.05s, with little over two minutes remaining.

James Moffat came closest to knocking Reynolds from pole, falling just 0.03s short in his Nissan Altima.

Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup secured the second row for Red Bull, while James Courtney and Lee Holdsworth completed the top five.

Will Davison, who had been on top prior to Reynolds’ pole effort, fell to seventh despite also improving his time in the closing moments.

Saturday’s provisional pole-sitter Garth Tander could manage no better than eighth, while Chaz Mostert and Michael Caruso rounded out the top 10.

The cars of Mark Winterbottom, Shane van Gisbergen and Tony D’Alberto – all top four finishers on Saturday – will line-up 11th, 12th and 20th respectively.

Jason Bright’s Team BOC Holden proved off the pace on its return to the track following a Friday accident, ending up 27th.

Scott McLaughlin’s Fujitsu GRM Holden completed the field after the electrical issues that plagued it on Saturday continued.

The team will change the car’s engine prior to this afternoon’s 300km race.
