David Sieders will start from pole after Round Six of the Australian V8 Ute Racing Series – Fuelled by Hog’s Breath Café at Bathurst ended with a twist.
Kris Walton was denied consecutive pole positions when his rapid 2:30.618 lap, which slashed the practice/qualifying record by a further two seconds, was excluded due to a parc ferme infringement.
Sieders will share the front row with Rhys McNally, another beneficiary of officialdom as Ryan Hansford joined Walton and several others in losing their best times for the same offence.
Hansford and Walton share the second row, Nathan Pretty and Ryal Harris the third, as the top twelve bettered yesterday’s record pace.
Touring Car Masters
John Bowe took out a shortened opening race of the Mountain Masters round.
While the field raced in anger for less than three of the scheduled seven laps, Bowe was arguably good for the win as he lowered the race lap record of good friend the late Jason Richards on Lap 2, having reset his own qualifying mark earlier in the day when he took pole by over 1.6s.
Andrew Miedecke was second and Keith Kassulke survived a brief battle with Greg Crick and Kim Jane for third, while Brett Youlden was clearly displeased with being tagged by Bill Pye at the turn-in to Skyline.
The pair found the gravel and took Andrew Fisher with them, necessitating the safety car which lasted for the balance of the race.
Aussie Racing Cars
Sam Milton scored a maiden race win as the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series’ fifth round kicked off the racing action at Bathurst.
Milton jumped to the lead from the second row on the grid, but had already been usurped by pole sitter Adam Gowans as the pair dropped into The Esses for the first time.
The South Australian inherited first place again when Gowans spun unassisted at The Cutting on Lap 4, and lead the field home from there.
Grant Denyer climbed from ninth on the grid to finish second in his ARC debut race after making up five positions on the opening lap, while Rhett Noonan similarly recovered from falling to ninth after Lap 1 to take third.
Of the title contenders, points leader Peter Carr was fifth, Darren Chamberlin eighth, and Brendon Pingel ninth.
V8 Utes Race 1 will be held tomorrow from 0745, while the second Aussie and TCM races are scheduled for 0815 and 1455 respectively.
