AUSTRALIAN living legend Sir Jack Brabham has spoken of his joy after seeing his son David enjoy a stellar season of international Sportscar racing.

David Brabham finally claimed the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hour crown earlier this year after 15 previous attempts, taking a leading role in Peugeot’s outright win, which ended a decade of dominance from Audi.

Then earlier this month, Brabham took out the American Le Mans Series title for the Patrón Highcroft Racing operation in what is effectively his ‘full-time’ role, partnering former IndyCar pilot Scott Sharp in the Acura LMP1.

“The great news of the championship and David’s fantastic win at Le Mans has made my 50th anniversary year really special,” said Sir Jack.

“Congratulations to the team, wonderful news after a lot of hard work and very well deserved.”

Brabham’s ALMS season included three victories, two poles and championship points scored in all ten rounds of the championship.

Sir Jack Brabham, along with eldest son Geoff Brabham – himself a Le Mans winner – and grandson Matthew Brabham are the number one, two and three ticket holders at this weekend’s Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast.
