Michael Caruso put Nissan at the top of the time sheets in the final track session prior to the start of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Caruso set a 2:06.98s in his heritage-coloured Altima before handing over to co-driver Dean Fiore for the closing stages of the 20 minute warm-up session.
The Caruso/Fiore Nissan will start 13th in today’s race, leaving the former optimistic of a strong showing.
“It’s a long race and to be completely honest we just need to be there at the end,” he said.
“It’s going to be a tough day but I think our chances are as good as anyone’s.
“We’ve been fast all weekend but you need a bit of luck, not just a fast car.”
The morning hit-out proved trouble free for all 25 competitors ahead of the 1030 race start.
Chaz Mostert, whose car will start at the back of the grid due to a penalty for passing Russell Ingall under red flags in qualifying, was second fastest, 0.02s shy of Caruso.
Fellow rear-of-grid starters Jamie Whincup and David Reynolds completed the top four.
The session marked the first track time for Reynolds since his qualifying crash on Friday afternoon.
All 50 drivers turned laps, with full race pitstop practice, including pitlane refuelling, allowed for the first time.
