SUPPORTS: Ojeda wins as Feeney takes series lead after clash

Jayden Ojeda leads Broc Feeney

Super3 Series

Jayden Ojeda won Kumho Tyre Super3 Series Race 3 at Queensland Raceway as Broc Feeney took the series lead from Zak Best after they clashed up front on Lap 1.

Best and Feeney started on the front row and touched into Turn 1, with the former retaining first position.

When Feeney went down the inside at Turn 4, the contact bent a steering arm on Best’s #78 FG Falcon “like a banana” according to team owner Matt White.

Best had taken over the series lead with a lights-to-flag win earlier in the day in Race 2 but lost it with a second final race DNF in as many rounds.

The incident was ultimately not deemed worthy of penalty and Feeney (#67 Paul Morris Motorsport FG Falcon) pressed on as the new race leader, with Ojeda (#11 Anderson Motorsport FG Falcon) close behind, and the rest losing ground to the top two.

Ojeda got through at Turn 3 on Lap 7 and continued on his way to a 1.9s win over Feeney in the 17-lap encounter, as Josh Fife (#14 Brad Jones Racing VE Commodore) held off Nic Carroll (#48 MW Motorsport FG Falcon) to claim third.

Round 4 supports the OTR SuperSprint at The Bend on August 23-25.

Ryal Harris

Touring Car Masters

Ryal Harris staved off strong pressure to claim a maiden Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters race win in the final encounter of Round 4 at Queensland Raceway.

Harris (Chevrolet Camaro) roared into the lead off the rolling start ahead of pole-sitter Aaron Seton (Ford Mustang), while Jim Pollicina (Holden Torana) went spinning on his own.

Adam Bressington came under pressure from fellow Chevrolet Camaro driver Adam Garwood, with Garwood putting a move on for third shortly after the halfway mark of the 12-lap race at Turn 6.

It didn’t take long for Garwood to hook onto the back of Seton and Harris to make it a three-car fight for the lead.

Seton made an error going through Turn 3 which allowed Garwood to pounce around the outside and take over second on Lap 9.

Harris managed to hold a charging Garwood at bay until the chequered flag, winning by 0.3s.

Bressington finished third after Seton slowed on the run to the final corner on the last lap, limping across the line fourth.

Series leader Steven Johnson came home fifth in his Ford Mustang.

Round 5 headlines the Sydney MasterBlast, formerly known as Muscle Car Masters, and features a night race at Sydney Motorsport Park on August 30-September 1.

Aussie Racing Cars

Justin Ruggier took one race win but has provisionally lost another after one of the wildest finishes in Round 4 of Aussie Racing Cars.

He and Kel Treseder shared the front row for Race 4 and the latter dived down the inside to take the lead at Turn 3.

Ruggier reclaimed it at Turn 6 and Joel Heinrich also vaulted ahead of Treseder for second, although the latter reclaimed one place on Lap 3.

It then became a four-car battle for the lead in the second half of the race, with Ruggier heading Treseder, Heinrich and Josh Anderson.

Contact between Ruggier and Treseder on the run to Turn 6 allowed Anderson to take over top spot on Lap 9, but that lasted only until Anderson locked up at the same corner and ran wide a lap later.

Through all of this, Kyle Honour dragged up to the back of the train and made it a five-car pack.

On the last lap, Ruggier went side-by-side with Treseder on the exit of the final corner, with the pair banging doors along the main straight and getting sideways.

Treseder spun off the road, and it was Ruggier that reached the finish line first by 0.1s.

However, Ruggier has for now been assessed a 30-second penalty for that contact, and Treseder 10 seconds for the Lap 9 touch.

Heinrich is therefore provisionally classified the winner from Honour and Anderson, with Treseder sixth and Ruggier 15th.

In Race 3, Ruggier drove to victory from Row 4 due to the grid inversion, taking top spot less than three laps in when he rounded up Honour at Turn 3.

Round 5 of Aussie Racing Cars also supports the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at The Bend.
