SUPPORTS: Treseder victorious in ARC

Kel Treseder

Kel Treseder has taken a maiden Aussie Racing Cars race win at Queensland Raceway.

Treseder shared the front row with Adam Uebergang in what was also the former karting champion’s first ever pole in the category.

The pair ran line astern from the start to Turn 3 before Treseder prevailed, running away with the race as those behind battled each other for the 12-lap duration.

James Duckworth and Uebergang initially duelled for second position before Adrian Flack joined the fray.

Brendon Pingel made steady progress from sixth at the end of the opening lap to pass Flack for second on Lap 8, after which he too dropped the pack.

Flack’s return race in the category turned sour when he slid off the road at Turn 1 on the penultimate lap of the race.

Craig Woods, on the other hand, recovered from an early bump off the track by Flack to complete the top three, ahead of Duckworth and Uebergang.

Ben Walsh, who has won five races across the preceding two rounds, endured a challenging day as he finished 25th after being excluded from qualifying for failing to make minimum weight.

The Aussie Racing Cars will contest two 13 lap races with the first set to start at 1050 local time.

Touring Car Masters

Jason Gomersall set the pace in practice for the fifth round of the Touring Car Masters series.

The Holden Torana A9X driver continued his run of impressive practice performances having been fastest on Friday at the previous events at Winton and Darwin.

Gomersall’s 1:16.44s lap set in Practice 2 edged out Glenn Seton’s effort by 0.2s, which was set in the opening hit out.

John Bowe (Holden Torana) remained in close company with the two respective pace setters in third, with Darwin round winner Steven Johnson fourth fastest in his Falcon XY GTHO.

Eddie Abelnica was fifth and Jim Richards a competitive sixth in the newly rebuilt Shannons Insurance Falcon Sprint.

The Touring Car Masters head back on track on Saturday morning for qualifying at 0950 local time ahead of two 13 lap races.

Taz Douglas

Kumho V8 Touring Car Series

Taz Douglas set the fastest practice time despite sitting out most of the second session having dropped an oil line.

Tyler Greenbury topped that session as one of only a few to improve on his Practice 1 efforts with the mercury rising, though he could not beat Douglas’ earlier benchmark.

Shane Hunt found the wall during the latter session when he ran off at Turn 1 with an apparent right-front upright failure.

The Kumho V8s will return to action for qualifying at 1020 local time tomorrow ahead of a 13 lap race in the afternoon.

Harry Hayek emerged as the star of qualifying as he secured pole position for Saturday’s CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship opener.

The Team BRM driver clocked a 1:13.08s lap of Queensland Raceway to claim pole position by 0.17s from Nick Rowe.

Hayek has returned to the category on a full-time basis following a stint in the British Formula 4 Championship this season.

Practice pace-setter Will Brown will head up the second row, which he will share with Jordan Love.

AGI Sport’s Jack Smith was fifth fastest ahead of DREAM Motorsport’s Simon Fallon who completed the top six.

The first Formula 4 heat of the weekend is scheduled to start at 1120 local time.
