There will be more than just retro paint schemes on race cars that will help celebrate the 50th year of touring car endurance racing at Mount Panorama.
The Chase will return to its original name – The Caltex Chase – as part of a sponsorship deal for the next three years.
The challenging right-left-right section at the bottom of Conrod Straight was introduced to the circuit in 1987 after the death of Mike Burgmann in the previous year’s race.
The addition of the Caltex Chase was the first major change to the classic layout of Mount Panorama since it opened almost 50 years earlier.
Caltex ambassador Craig Lowndes says that the Chase is one best sections of racing track in the world.
“The high-speed right hander at the entry to the Chase is the fastest corner on an Australian race track, and it’s one that most drivers really enjoy,” according to five-times Bathurst winner and Craig Lowndes.
“You know you’re on a fast lap when you can go through there without lifting off.”
Caltex has announced its return to sponsorship of the Chase in honour of the 50th running of the Bathurst touring car race.
“In this year when Australian motor racing is celebrating a milestone for Australia’s greatest race, Caltex is very pleased to once again be associated with a significant part of Bathurst’s history and folklore,” said Caltex Australia National Manager Marketing Services Michael Ridley-Smith.
