Shane van Gisbergen has scored his second consecutive V8 Supercars pole position in a tense Top 10 Shootout at Surfers Paradise.
The Tekno Holden was the seventh car out in the session, recording a 1:11.32s lap to knock Tim Slade from the top spot.
Red Bull duo Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes then both failed to better the mark.
The former brushed the exit walls at Turns 4 and 11 while Lowndes breached the track limits at Turn 2, ensuring his lap would not be counted.
Qualifying pace-setter Scott McLaughlin recovered from 0.2s down in the first sector but was still 0.08s short of Van Gisbergen at the flag to secure second.
Slade and Garth Tander will share the second row in their Walkinshaw Holdens while Whincup’s scrappy lap was good enough for fifth.
David Reynolds, Lee Holdsworth, Nick Percat, Michael Caruso and Lowndes completed the order.
The 300km race will take place from 1440 local time.
