Fans will be given a rare insight into Scott McLaughlin’s final primary driver event for DJR Team Penske as part of a special Supercars Life feature tomorrow.
The 60-minute episode follows McLaughlin across last year’s Bathurst 1000, shortly before confirmation came he would depart for the US to pursue a career in IndyCar.
McLaughlin gives an open account throughout, in preparation for farewelling the crew who played no small part in his three successive Supercars titles.
“My career in Supercars has been amazing. I did exactly what I wanted to do, I wanted to win a Championship and a Bathurst and I’ve been able to do that,” he says.
“I’ll never forget these times and I’ll never forget the people who have helped me along the way because I wouldn’t be where I am without these people.
“All the guys on this team have been with me since I joined the team, we’re all like brothers, they’ve always had my back, they were all at my wedding and all just legends, you know.
“I’m like close to breaking now, it’s like it’s all over so fast, even that last lap I just tried to enjoy like, Bathurst, the track, like I’ll be back but you just never know.
“If you asked me two years ago that I was going to be driving Indianapolis Speedway in an IndyCar with Team Penske, I would have said no way.
“It’s something that’s special and a dream come true.”
The episode will air 5:20-6:20pm AEDT following Friday practice at the Repco Mount Panorama 500 – the first Supercars event without McLaughlin since Winton 2012.
Succeeding McLaughlin in the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang this year is two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Will Davison.
