David Wall has broken through to win the second race of the Carrera Cup at Hidden Valley.

In what was just his second race win in the Carrera Cup Series, and first since Sandown 2008, Wall drove a fast and steady race, while his rivals had dramas.

Off the start Wall was second behind Alex Davison, while behind championship leader Matt Campbell suffered tyre damage and had to pit.

He lost the lead lap and out of contention when a Safety Car was called onto the track when Adrian Mastronardo went off at Turn 1.

Earlier Ash Walsh touched team-mate Nick McBride before being turned around by Fraser Ross.

Upon the re-start on Lap 6, Davison ran wide at Turn 1 and dropped back to eighth.

With Campbell a lap down, but sitting behind Wall, the former V8 driver stretched a margin over Steve Richards.

A charging Davison moved back up behind Richards. On the final lap Richards ran wide at the hairpin and both Davison and McBride moved up.

There were no such issues for Wall who took a well-deserved victory.

Shane Smollen made it two-from-two in the Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge, winning from Tony Bates and Stephen Grove. James Bergmuller’s chances ending with a puncture.

Also in the wars were Marc Cini and Scott Taylor who came together at the exit if Turn 1 on Lap 10.

The final race of the weekend will be later today.
