The World Endurance Championship has moved the 6 Hours of Fuji forward by one week in order to allow Fernando Alonso to race at Toyota’s home track.
Alonso’s signing for Toyota’s LMP1 program, for which he will contest races which do not clash with Formula 1, triggered speculation of the move, which WEC boss Gerard Neveu did little to hose down.
The race will now take place on the weekend of October 12-14, a move forward of one week which takes it away from the United States Grand Prix weekend.
Fuji had originally held that date on an early draft of the WEC calendar but was then moved back to October 19-21 in order to avoid a clash with Petit Le Mans.
The two events are on a collision course again, preventing WEC drivers such as Toyota’s Mike Conway from also participating in the IMSA finale.
