United States-based Australian Tom Drewer will return to the Cannonball Run-inspired Tire Rack One Lap USA rally this May, driving a Dodge Viper.
The Adelaide-raised Drewer has competed in the event for the last two years, driving a Porsche 944 in 2011 and a Dodge Magnum last year.
The 2013 event will see Drewer team with local GT racer Steve Loudin in a 700bhp Viper, dressed in the same colours as Dodge's factory American Le Mans Series entries.
Drewer believes the car will be an outright contender in the event that covers 5440km of driving across timed skid pad, autocross, drag strip and racetrack challenges, and highway transit stages.
“It sounds and looks like a beast, but in reality it's a very gentle giant, which is a pleasant surprise,” said Drewer of the Viper.
“We were pulling 170 mph during the test in the wet, so it's going to be a very fast ride when we get to the Daytona Super Speedway which is one of the circuits we will be visiting this year.”
The Viper is being run under the Team Forge Ahead USA banner, promoting an organisation that champions American manufacturing.
The 30th running of the One Lap event begins in Indiana on May 3rd and runs for eight days.
