Organisers of the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia series have confirmed the regulations surrounding ABS for Pro rated drivers this season.

With the capacity 26-car field brandishing a new generation of car for the 2018 season, the latest Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car boasts the inclusion of ABS for the first time.

Discussions surrounding how it would be used had been ongoing for some time, with confirmation now that Pro rated drivers will not be allowed to use ABS, while drivers in the TAG Heuer Pro-Am class can.

An exception to that rule allows Pro rated drivers to use ABS is when the car has wet tyres fitted, a caveat that has forced another change in regulations.

With ABS offering a sizeable competitive advantage in wet conditions, regulations now state that should conditions change mid-race, the safety car will be deployed if the race has not yet reached 75 percent of its scheduled distance.

As Carrera Cup is not equipped to perform in-race pit stops, the race will then be suspended and drivers will to return to the pit lane and change tyres, with no other work allowed to be carried out on the car.

Race control will then send a message to teams confirming the order cars are to exit the pits.

Should the changeable conditions interfere with the race after 75 percent of its scheduled distance the race will be stopped and not restarted.

Adelaide hosts the opening round of the Carrera Cup season this weekend, the first of eight race weekends for the category throughout 2018.

Early forecasts had predicted some rain over the weekend, though have since be revised to warm and cloudy across all four days.
