Paul Dumbrell has added another race win to his weekend tally in Round 5 of the Dunlop Super2 Series at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Dumbrell (Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore) beat Anton de Pasquale (Paul Morris Motorsport FGX Falcon) to the line in a relatively close affair, with Garry Jacobson (Prodrive Racing Australia FGX Falcon) completing the top three in a race marked by a fast crash for Matt Chahda (Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport VF Commodore).
Dumbrell again got the jump from the front row as Jack Le Brocq was swamped from position two.
De Pasquale, Macauley Jones (Brad Jones Racing VF Commodore), Jacobson, and Richie Stanaway (Prodrive Racing Australia FGX Falcon) all got to the first corner ahead of Le Brocq before Stanaway attempted an outside move at Turn 2.
Jacobson hung on to fourth and Stanaway was nearly unloaded by Le Brocq as he filed back into the queue as the field crossed the tunnel.
Chahda brought out the Safety Car on Lap 2 when he locked up at the back of the pack, ran off at Turn 1, and was flung around by the wall.
He was winded by the impact but unhurt.
Dumbrell bottled up the field at the Lap 7 restart and while de Pasquale initially went with the race leader, car #88 gradually crept away.
The two-time Super2 series winner took his second win in as many days by just over a second in an encounter shortened from 18 to 13 laps due to the Safety Car.
De Pasquale finished second again despite his overnight grid penalty, while Jacobson took third and Stanaway fourth.
Jones remained fifth after running wide at Turn 2 and ceding two positions just before the Safety Car was called, ahead of the two MW Motorsport Altimas of Jack Le Brocq and Shae Davies.
Richard Muscat (Garry Rogers Motorsport VF Commodore) held onto ninth despite coming under pressure from Todd Hazelwood (Matt Stone Racing VF Commodore), and Bryce Fullwood rounded out the top 10 in the third MW Altima.
Hazelwood’s series lead is now just six points to Dumbrell.
Round 5 continues with Race 3 of four (18 laps) afternoon at 1510 AEST/local time.
