The red flag has been shown inside the opening hour of the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour after a crash at Forrest’s Elbow.
The Colin Osborne and Hadrian Morrall Renault Megane RS 265 Trophy found itself buried nose first in the tyre barrier after six laps.
Initially the incident triggered the Safety Car before the red flag was shown after it was deemed the damaged tyre wall needed repair.
Earlier, Tim Slade was left on the grid as the field pulled away behind the Safety Car on the formation lap.
The CGR Performance Mitsubishi Evo suffered a flat battery, but was bump started and rejoined at the back of the field, climbing to 26th before the red flag.
Under the red flag the race was suspended, the field stopping in pit lane with teams not allowed to work on the cars.
At the red flag, the Garth Walden, Craig Baird and Brad Shiels Mercedes-AMG A45 headed the race, though was yet to serve any of its four compulsory pit stops.
