Formula 1 has scrapped a revised points structure which would have seen all 20 cars receive points next season.

Tabled at a Strategy Group meeting earlier this year, it was suggested that the current structure which awards points to the top 10 be revised to include all classified finishers.

Former Force India team owner Vijay Mallya revealed in July that discussions were taking place about the points structure, with other suggestions including simply extending the points to 15th.

It was argued that awarding points throughout the field would provide all drivers a reason to continue pushing, even if they are outside of the top 10, and thereby improve the racing spectacle.

The counter argument was that, with points awarded to every driver who reaches the finish, it cheapens the accomplishment of finishing in the top 10.

With no agreement reached the idea has now been scrapped, with the points system for 2019 to remain identical to that used this year.

One change that has been pushed through, though won’t be introduced until the 2020 season, is an expansion of the team’s overnight curfew.

The current rules dictate an eight hour period when teams are not allowed in the paddock on Friday and Saturday nights.

From 2020 that window will be increased to nine hours, with teams allowed two exceptions throughout the year.
