Bryce Fullwood has secured the final Armor All Pole Position of the 2019 Super2 season in Newcastle in a session which ended early due to a crash for Brenton Grove.
The provisional series winner will share the front row with Jordan Boys, while Kurt Kostecki is in a good position to secure second in the standings given he will start Race 2 of Round 7 from the inside of the second row.
Boys set the pace on the first runs with a 1:11.8907s straight off the bat in the #49 Image Racing VF Commodore, despite a slide off the Pilot Station corner (Turn 12).
Kostecki (#55 Triple Eight VF Commodore) needed two laps to join him in the 1:11s at 0.0278s slower, while Fullwood (#16 MW Motorsport Altima) was third on a 1:12.0588s and Jack Perkins (#54 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore) fourth.
A red flag, believed to be for debris, fell with almost all of the 15-car field back in pit lane between runs anyway and caused only a brief delay.
Kostecki was personal best to the second sector when he skated long at the Turn 11 hairpin, before Thomas Randle (#5 Tickford FGX Falcon) moved to third with a 1:11.9735s.
Fullwood then got in the 1:11.8356s which would give him a third pole position for the campaign and therefore the Armor All Pole Champion award for the season.
His cause was helped when Grove clouted the wall exiting Zaara Street with two-and-a-half minutes remaining and could not drive the #10 Triple Eight VF Commodore back to pit lane, curtailing the session.
Neither Boys nor Kostecki improved on their first runs while Randle ended up fourth due to Fullwood’s pole lap.
Zane Goddard (#28 MW Motorsport Altima) and Perkins will share Row 3, ahead of Adam Marjoram (#15 Image Racing VF Commodore), Will Brown (#38 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore), Justin Ruggier (#88 Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore), and Matt Chahda (#18 Matt Chahda Motorsport FGX Falcon).
Matt Stone Racing’s Ash Walsh (#35 VF Commodore) was classified 14th and Grove fell to 15th due to losing his best lap.
The final race of the 2019 Dunlop Super2 Series, to be run over 21 laps, is set for a start at 1450 local time/AEDT.
