Garry Jacobson has set the fastest lap after the chequered flag in practice for Round 5 of the Dunlop Super2 Series at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Jacobson and Anton de Pasquale swapped places at the very top of the timesheets in the dying moments as they demoted long-time leader Paul Dumbrell to third-fastest.

Jacobson had spent most of the 40-minute session around the back end or just outside of the top 10 before jumping to the top in his Prodrive Racing Australia FGX Falcon in the final minute.

De Pasquale, who had just moved up to second before more fast laps came in, then moved into first position after the chequered flag in the Paul Morris Motorsport FGX Falcon.

However, Jacobson was not done, the defending series champion laying down a 1:32.6507s to settle matters.

Dumbrell had been fastest from the very first timed laps until the 40th minute, his best effort coming on his third lap in the Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore.

The two-time series winner twice went fastest to the first sector in later runs but didn’t go on with either lap.

A late charge saw Brad Jones Racing’s Jack Smith take his VF Commodore to fourth, ahead of team-mate and Super2 team manager Andrew Jones.

Richie Stanaway spent much of proceedings in second in his first session in Super2, before the #6 Prodrive Racing Australia FGX Falcon was shuffled back to sixth.

The remainder of the top 10 was Nathan Morcom (Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore), Will Brown (Eggleston Motorsport VF Commodore), series leader Todd Hazelwood (Matt Stone Racing VF Commodore), and Jack Perkins.

Perkins’ result came despite sitting out more than the latter quarter of an hour due to engine problems in his Dragon Motor Racing VF Commodore.

His team-mate Renee Gracie appeared to suffer a similar affliction, pulling off to the side of the circuit late in the session.

That was the main incident in an otherwise uneventful session, though Macauley Jones did have a moment on the grass exiting Turn 3 in his Brad Jones Racing VF Commodore on his way to 14th.

Super2 will be back on track today for Armor All Qualifying (20 minutes) at 1220 AEST/local time and Race 1 (18 laps) at 1445, as part of the four-race format.
