Robert Kubica has been back behind the wheel of a race car for the first time since his debilitating hand injury last year.
The former Formula 1 driver has tested a factory Ford Fiesta RS WRC in France, according to Autosport.com.
The website reports that the Pole joined Ford for its development test at the Circuit des Ecuyers in central France recently, driving the car for a full day.
Prior to the test, Kubica is believed to have driven another Ford Fiesta RS WRC car in preparation for his time in Ford's official test car.
Ford team principal Malcolm Wilson refused to acknowledge to Autosport.com that Kubica was present at the test.
“As you know, we had a four-day development test at a circuit in France, that's all there is to it,” Wilson said.
“It was a private test and I'm not prepared to comment further.”
Kubica's career has been put on hold for the past 18 months after injuring his arm and hand during a rally accident in a Skoda Fabia S2000. These rally tests are believed to be the first time he has driven anything beyond a go-kart since the incident.
