Jack Le Brocq has taken pole position for the opening race of the Dunlop Series finale at the Coates Hire Sydney 500.
Le Brocq survived a late charge by James Golding to hold on to top spot by less than 0.07s, with his series-leading Prodrive Racing Australia team-mate Garry Jacobson third.
Le Brocq laid down the fastest opening lap before Golding took the ascendancy during the first runs of the 15-minute session.
The GoGetta Falcon driver jumped back to the top with an impressive 1:28.76s lap as the second runs began, with Jacobson following him across the line 0.5s slower in second.
Golding nearly glanced the wall at Turn 8 during a committed lap in his Wilson Security GRM Commodore, falling agonisingly short of a second pole of the season.
Macauley Jones moved to fourth late in the session, edging out his Brad Jones Racing team-mate Josh Kean.
Anton de Pasquale took sixth from Taz Douglas and Bryce Fullwood, while Todd Hazelwood was shuffled back to ninth and Andrew Jones 10th in the final flurry.
Richard Muscat thumped the tyre wall at the Turn 5/6 complex on his way to 12th, after his GRM Commodore had spent time in pit lane with the bonnet up.
Jacobson leads Le Brocq by 166 series points and can seal the title with a second placing in this afternoon’s 17-lap race, which starts at 1430 AEDT.
