Michael Waltrip Racing’s Mark Martin will start Richmond International Raceway’s Capital City 400 from pole position.

Martin lapped the 3/4 mile circuit in 21.04s to edge out Carl Edwards by just 0.006s.

“The Stanley Ford was better in qualifying,” said Ambrose.

“We wanted to be a tick better than that, but it’s still not bad. We’ll look over our notes and do some more homework for tomorrow night. I think we can have a good run.”

“I can’t say enough about this race team and that car,” said Martin after his lap, which was the last of the qualifying session.

“We were fast in practice and it was good to back that up with this qualifying effort. I’m looking forward to having a good night on Saturday.”

Kevin Harvick, AJ Allmendinger, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr, Kasey Kahne and Dale Earnhardt Jr rounded out the top 10.

Australian Marcos Ambrose qualified 14th, just 0.17s from pole.

“The Stanley Ford was better in qualifying,” said Ambrose.

“We wanted to be a tick better than that, but it’s still not bad. We’ll look over our notes and do some more homework for tomorrow night. I think we can have a good run.”
