Bathurst 1000 rookie winner Nick Percat has been taken out of contention for the Formula MRF Championship at the Buddh International Circuit in India today.
Percat, who won the Bathurst 1000 earlier this month with Garth Tander, won Saturday’s first race before he was involved in a controversial crash during the opening lap of today’s second race.
The 2009 Australian Formula Ford champion convincingly took pole and controlled the pace in Race 1, finishing 6.2 seconds ahead of British drivers Jordan King and Alice Powell.
In taking the win, Percat became the first person to win a motor race on the new Indian circuit.
At Turn 5 in Race 2, King collided with Percat’s side pod, eliminating Percat from the race.
King went on to win the race and the lucrative $50,000 winner’s cheque.
Percat returns to Australia in the coming days where he will prepare for the penultimate round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series at Sandown International Raceway (November 18-20).
