The Clipsal 500 could become a night event under a new proposal.
In a move that would reinvigorate the great event, Friday qualifying and Saturday's race would be held under lights, while Sunday's race would retain its afternoon time slot.
The plan is being considered for next year's race.
According to The Advertiser, V8 Supercars chairman Tony Cochrane will meet with South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill about the proposal.
“It is an exciting proposal and we will be exploring it further with the Motor Sport Board,” Mr Weatherill told The Advertiser.
The Clipsal 500 already holds races late into the evening, with tonight's twilight Carrera Cup race due to start at 7.45pm.
Clipsal 500 chief executive Mark Warren confirmed that discussions about a night race would take place soon.
“The SA Motor Sport Board are very open to new ideas for taking the event to another level,” Warren said.
“One of those ideas is a night V8 Supercar race event.”
