Dani Pedrosa has undergone surgery on his fractured collarbone sustained in a practice crash at the Japanese Grand Prix.
The factory Honda rider has returned to Spain where an operation was completed by Dr. Victor Marlet and his team from the Catalan Institute of Traumatology and Sports Medicine (ICATME) at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona.
Pedrosa was launched from his bike in the closing minutes of second practice at Motegi.
Doctors have inserted a titanium plate to aid the collarbone’s recovery, while also confirming the San Marino Grand Prix winner has suffered a fractured right leg.
“Through the use of a CAT scan, it was confirmed that patient Dani Pedrosa had suffered a comminuted fracture consisting of four fragments, with significant shortening of the middle third of the right clavicle,” explained doctors Marlet and Sergi Barrera.
“The scan also detected a supcapital fracture of the right fibula with no displacement, only requiring immobilisation.
“A surgical operation was carried out on the right clavicle, involving its open reduction and fixation with a titanium plate.
“The result of the operation was satisfactory, and Dani Pedrosa will undergo an evaluation of his progress over the coming days.”
Honda test rider Hiroshi Aoyama has been selected to replace Pedrosa for today’s race in Japan.
