Peter Robinson claimed the round win as the newly conceived TA2 Racing Australia Trans-Am series completed its second outing at Queensland Raceway.
A nine-car grid featuring Ford Mustangs and Chevrolet Camaros assembled at the Ipswich circuit following the category’s successful launch at Lakeside Raceway in August.
The TA2 formula utilises a space-frame Howe Racing Enterprises chassis fitted with a controlled GM Motorsport V8 engine, which develops 525 horsepower (391 kW).
Series founder Robinson proved to be the man to beat by taking pole position and two race victories from the four heats.
The Chevrolet Camaro driver converted pole into a comfortable win in Saturday’s opening race from former Supercars privateer Craig Harris (Ford Mustang), while Russell Wright (Ford Mustang) was third.
The victory came after the encounter was red flagged for an incident involving ex-Supercars driver Bob Thorn and Greg Willis at Turn 1.
Robinson crossed the line first in Race 2 but was stripped of the win after receiving a post-race 30 second penalty for contact with Wright that dropped the Race 1 winner to fifth.
Ian McAlister (Ford Mustang) inherited the spoils from Harris and Cameron Sendall (Chevrolet Camaro).
Wright claimed a maiden win in a dramatic third heat as he led home Robinson and Thorn.
A radiator issue for Harris spilled coolant all over the track which resulted in spins for McAlister, Sendall and Scott Textor.
Chad Cotton, who finished second on the road, was demoted to fifth after incurring a 30 second post-race penalty for jumping the start.
Robinson wrapped up the round victory by taking out the final race on Sunday after holding off Cotton and McAlister.
“It was good, tough racing,” said Robinson.
“All the drivers were incredibly competitive setting quick times and I had to work really hard for my wins.”
The series will make an appearance at Muscle Car Masters with a four car demonstration run planned at the Sydney Motorsport Park event from October 29-30.
