Simon Evans has stormed through the Canberra forests to take the opening heat of the National Capital Rally.
With the goal of going out hard to break the opposition, Evans quickly gapped the field as his main rivals all hit trouble.
Brendan Reeves would take second place, but that was despite gearbox issues. While son-of-a-gun Harry Bates rolled out, Mark Pedder and Adrian Copping both suffering mechanical issues.
The National Capital Rally continues with Heat 2 tomorrow.
