Andre Heimgartner and Ant Pedersen are today having their one and only test of Super Black Racing’s Ford Falcon ahead of next month’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Ford Performance Racing team principal Tim Edwards and team manager Chris O’Toole are overseeing the test for the Kiwi wildcard entry, which is being prepared for the race alongside the factory squad’s four pre-existing cars.
David Reynolds’ race engineer, Nathaniel Osborne, is running the car at the test, while FPR star Chaz Mostert will turn laps and assist the young Kiwis throughout the day.
The chassis is that last raced by Mostert at the Australian Grand Prix in March, having previously been David Reynolds’ full-time ride in 2013.
Heimgartner’s experience in Next Generation specification V8 Supercars is limited to brief hit-outs with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport and Dick Johnson Racing.
Pedersen has not previously driven a current-spec car and says he’s excited to be testing with such a well supported outfit.
“I’ve counted the number of people we’ve got here today because it’s more than I’ve ever had before to a test,” he said.
“It’s good that we’re doing it properly because we want to go to the Mountain and finish the race.
“We just need to keep ticking the boxes and prepare as well as we can.”
Those joining Super Black at Winton today include Dunlop Series teams Brad Jones Racing (Macauley Jones and Andrew Jones), Action Racing (Marcus Zukanovic), Image Racing (Jack Le Brocq) and GMJ Motorsport (Matthew Hansen).
Heimgartner’s Bathurst 250 Dunlop Series co-driver, Steve Owen, is also at Winton, coaching Hansen in the West Australian’s ex-Scott Pye Triple Eight Commodore.
