Tekno Autosports has received a $3,000 fine and lost 30 Teams’ Championship points for a pitstop infringement in the Wilson Security Sandown 500.
The incoming left-front tyre rolled towards the fast lane as the Tekno mechanics waited for Jonathon Webb to pit the #97 Holden early in the race.
Although the wheel was retrieved before it reached the lane, the team later admitted to the charge of “failing to have complete control during the pit stop”.
Tekno remains 10th in the Teams’ Championship standings after the penalty and continues to enjoy healthy advantage over The Bottle-O FPR Ford in the Single Car Teams’ Championship pointscore.
The Tekno Commodore finished sixth in the Sandown 500 after Shane van Gisbergen muscled the VIP Petfoods entry across the final 20 laps without fully functioning power steering.
Stewards meanwhile elected to take no action against Chaz Mostert or Will Davison for their collisions with Scott McLaughlin and Nick Percat respectively.
Davison had earlier collected Percat as the HHA Commodore headed for the pits; taking the South Australian out of the race.
Percat later expressed his disappointment with the result via Twitter, where he poked fun at Davison’s commercials for hair regrowth firm Advanced Hair Studio.
Davison responded to the jibe by showing support for team-mate Lee Holdsworth, who escaped a frightening crash late in the going.
