Warren Luff, Steve Richards and Craig Baird will continue what is shaping to be the closest title fight in Carrera Cup history at the second last round at Bathurst this weekend.
The penultimate round of the one-make series sees Luff take an eight point lead into the three 10 laps races over Richards.
Craig Baird, who is credited as the most successful Porsche Carrera Cup driver in history, is 26 points behind in third place after his campaign gained momentum following an indifferent start.
All three drivers are also involved in the V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000 with Richards this year linking with Craig Lowndes, while Baird remains with Lee Holdsworth while Luff will co-drive with Garth Tander.
As previously reported, David Russell – also involved in Bathurst 1000 duties alongside Rick Kelly – is returning to Carrera Cup competition for his 80th start.
Baird has a strong record at Bathurst and says that the GT3 Cup Cars are well suited to the mountain venue.
“Bathurst is the best place that we go to, there’s a bit of everything,” he said.
“Some of the circuits we go to the cars aren’t aren’t really designed for.
“They’re not designed for smashing over kerbs and at Bathurst it’s just about full commitment from the driver.”
The Bathurst round comes two weeks after the season-ending meeting at the Castrol Gold Coast 600 meeting.
