V8 Supercars has made a late change to the pitlane entry for this weekend’s Trading Post Perth Challenge
A multi-million dollar upgrade of the West Australian venue has seen the pitlane moved to the inside of the circuit this year, with entry lanes before and after the final corner having been constructed.
After initially deciding to use the entry immediately after the final corner, V8 Supercars released a statement to its teams this evening confirming that the second entry – located on the back straight – will take its place.
“After consultation with key stakeholders V8 Supercars has opted to utilise the Pit Entry Road prior to the final turn for all sessions starting tomorrow,” the statement read.
“The line for the engagement of the Pit Lane speed limiter will be determined in the morning and marked appropriately.”
The pitlane entry proved to be the talking point of the paddock as the teams completed their track inspections today, with several drivers expressing their concern to both Speedcafe.com and V8 Supercars regarding the entry’s proximity to the final corner.
Jim Beam Racing’s Steven Johnson said he was disappointed that no current drivers had been consulted during the design process.
“I honestly just don’t know how these sort of decisions are made without consulting the drivers,” Johnson told Speedcafe.com.
“We’re not the governing body, but we’re the guys that are affected by it the most. They should have had the design and then come to us and asked for our feedback.
“They just need to consult the drivers who are actually competing in the championship.
“If you polled every single driver, I’d be very surprised if you didn’t get 100 percent of the votes in favour of using the other entry.”
