Bathurst bound Mazda 3 V8 breaks cover

Images of the MARC Mazda 3 V8 have emerged ahead of the car’s arrival at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

The first MARC V8 to wear the Mazda body undertook a brief shakedown at Norwell, Queensland, on Tuesday before being dispatched to Mount Panorama.

The team faced tight timelines to get the car ready for Bathurst after being forced into significant repairs on one of its Ford Focus V8s, which suffered damage at last month’s Dubai 24 Hours.

Final eligibility paperwork has also been processed by CAMS this week, which will allow the 3 sedan to join its two Focus brethren in the event’s Invitational class.

The car shares all but its bodywork with the Focus, utilising the base MARC endurance racing package that has been designed to accommodate a wide variety of bodies.

As previously reported, the Jake Camilleri/Keith Kassulke/Ivo Breukers driven Mazda entry will wear Darrell Lea Stix colours at Bathurst.

After the race the Mazda will remain based in Australia, where it is scheduled to be raced in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series by Camilleri.
