Plans for a $2.5 billion dollar ‘Ferrari World’ style motorsports precinct and car-themed amusement park at Norwell are set to be submitted to the Queensland state government later this year.
The Gold Coast Bulletin reports that the bold plan, spearheaded by Gold Coast developer IMETT, would see the company buy up farms at Norwell in the city’s north to make way for a facility that could rival Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari-themed mega park.
The proposed facility would include a new international standard race circuit, theme park and holiday destination.
The project is more than 10 years in the making with IMETT claiming it has engaged Canadian theme park developer Forrec and German racetrack designer Tilke to develop a masterplan.
The town of Norwell is no stranger to motorsports activity, as it currently has the Paul Morris-run Driving Centre.
While the proposal has received some opposition, IMETT managing director Ron Brown says that he is looking to create an “international attraction,” featuring the race track, amusement park, an educational precinct, hotel, botanic gardens, bars and restaurants.
The site could also include a light rail link.
