Entry applications have been extended until this Friday to enter the inaugural Speedcafe.com Townsville Billy Cart Dash, to be held on June 24.
The fundraising billy cart event will be held on Burke St, North Ward, and is open to everybody – kids, big kids, families, corporate, defence and sporting club teams.
Teams' small registration fee will be donated to Variety, a national non-profit organisation supporting kids who are sick, disadvantaged or who have special needs.
Forty entries have been received so far.
Registration costs are $25 per child, $50 for adult and $100 per corporate/sporting club teams, with teams to consist of four members.
Entrants are encouraged to build their own kart and dress up in fancy dress for your chance to win a range of prizes.
There will be time trials, downhill races and a team obstacle course, as well as fun for spectators with park entertainment, cold drinks, hot food and children's activities.
This new event has the full backing of the Townsville City Council, along with local business sponsorships, newspaper, radio and television stations.
Speedcafe.com is one of the organisations offering its support to the worthy cause.
If you are keen to participate, log on to the Variety website www.variety.org.au/billycartdash for more information, including billy cart specifications.
